Usage Data (Automatically Collected)

• IP address and device/browser data
• An approximate location derived from your IP address when you sign up — state or region, city, and postal code. We store it, we do not ask you for it, and it is approximate by nature: a VPN, mobile data, or a corporate network will move it. We use it only in aggregate, to tell brands roughly where their audience is.
• Email open rates and link clicks (to improve newsletter relevance)
• Affiliate link clicks (used for commission tracking, via third parties)
• Pages you view and what you click on the site, through our product analytics tool (PostHog). Once you have an account, this activity is linked to your account so we can see a complete signup journey rather than disconnected visits; your email address is stored on that profile.
• A screen recording of your session, on the signup page only. Everything you type into a form field is masked in your browser before the recording is sent, so we never receive the values you enter — including your name, email, address, and phone number. We do not record any other page.

We use your data to:

• Send personalized deal emails based on your interests
• Improve the relevance and performance of our emails
• Report aggregate audience statistics to brands — never anything that identifies you individually
• Track purchases for affiliate commissions
• Communicate with you about updates, feedback, or support

If you choose to provide your phone number and opt in to receive SMS messages, Scout may send you text messages related to curated deals, promotions, and updates based on your selected interests.

• Message frequency may vary, but will not exceed 8 messages per month.
• Message and data rates may apply depending on your mobile carrier plan.
• You may opt out of SMS communications at any time by replying STOP to any message. For assistance, reply HELP.
• We do not share or sell SMS consent or phone numbers to third parties for marketing purposes.

Some of the links in our emails and website are affiliate links. This means we may earn a commission if you click and make a purchase, at no extra cost to you. These links are tracked via third-party affiliate networks (e.g., Rakuten, ShareASale, CJ Affiliate), which may use cookies or similar technologies.

We store your information securely and take reasonable steps to protect it. We use reputable third-party services with strong security practices: Convex and Supabase (database), Clerk (accounts and sign-in), Resend (email delivery), Vercel (hosting), and PostHog (product analytics).

We may use cookies to improve your experience and track affiliate clicks. Some affiliate partners may set cookies to track referrals and measure performance. You can manage cookies in your browser settings.

We use PostHog to understand how people use the site and where our signup flow gets confusing. It sets a cookie to recognize your browser across visits, which you can clear or block in your browser settings. Scout is not intended for use by children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from children.
